For Fun Friday // Island Pendants
There's nothing we love more than a good island pendant. Not only does it provide for a light and bright kitchen, but it adds an extra element of design and style to the space. When we're designing a kitchen, these are the things we think of in regards to choosing our pendants.
First, what is the overall style of the space? Does it have a coastal vibe? Modern farmhouse? Or maybe it's leaning towards industrial? Once you've narrowed down your style, it's time to start shopping!
We LOVED using these basket weave pendants in our Marisol Project. They are light, airy, and a little boho. Basically all of our favorite styles wrapped into one!
Number of Pendants:
Once you've selected your style it's time to determine how many you need! The overall diameter of the shade and the size of your island will determine how many pendants you'll want to hang. Generally speaking, two pendants is what we usually go with, as you don't want it to feel crowded.
Another thing to keep in mind is what type of bar stools you're planning on using. You don't want the lighting to compete with other elements in the space. We like to tie the two components in with each other so it creates one cohesive look. You'll notice that we often use similar material for our pendants and counter stools.
The final step in any pendant project is installation! Pendants should be hung about 12-20 inches below an eight foot ceiling. If your ceiling is higher than eight feet, add an additional 3 inches for each extra foot. This should be about 28-34 inches above your countertop. Another general guideline is to space pendants about 30 inches a part from each other.
If you're not sure where to start, we've pulled some of our favorite pendants together for you, simply shop below! Your kitchen will thank you!
